If you need a nice break from the gambling at the Seneca Niagara Casino in Niagara Falls, tucked away from all the action on the gaming floor, you will find nested on the second floor, one of Western New York's finest steakhouses. Even during a blizzard, there is always a big, pleasant crowd in attendance away from the buzz and smoky mirages of the casino. This hidden gem of Western New York is known as The Western Door.
We called to make a reservation and were promptly asked if there was a special occasion. So far, for me, every night out in the 716 has been a special occasion. We arrived for dinner and were seated almost immediately. Tonight we decided to order a bunch of appetizers so that we could sample a little bit of everything and get a good idea of what this place is all about.
The Western Door features the best steaks in Western New York, as well as daily specials such as the Risotto and the Deep Fried Cheesecake. Along with the assortment of fresh-baked bread, we ordered the Calamari from the Bistro Menu, the Lobster Mac & Cheese, Lobster Bisque, and Blackened Scallops. Chef Joe made us Lump Crab Cakes and Buffalo Cauliflower with Crumbly Blue Cheese. Everything we tried was simply to die for.
As for the experience and ambiance, it really felt like super fine dining but it didn't come off standoffish or intimidating in any way. Upon our request, we had the pleasure of sitting at the bistro located at the very front of the restaurant. This allowed us to watch the Sabres game and partake in a more relaxed, lounge-type atmosphere.
Something that really caught my eye was the big wine glass cooler located directly behind the bar. The back half of the dining room was tailored more towards the fine dining steakhouse aspect, featuring a show kitchen with large windows so you can watch the chefs and staff in action. Next time I'll be sure to sit at the private dining areas with huge windows overlooking the casino floor. The servers and staff were extremely diligent and professional, and I can't wait to return to try more items from their amazing menu.
We had a nice little visit from Chef Joe to check on our experience, which added a very special touch to a very special night. The food was so plentiful that we weren't able to finish everything and were left with delightful leftovers for the next day. We highly recommend you give The Western Door a try if you've ever in the area. We promise it will be an experience you'll never forget!
