Hiking Through WNY

Eternal Flame

There are numerous places in and around Western New York to hike for all different types of hikers. Beginner hikers can hike to see the Eternal Flame and more experienced hikers might want to try hiking almost anywhere in Watkins Glen and seeing countless waterfalls.


Hiking to see the Eternal Flame is a short hike that is family-friendly and pretty easy

for even young children. Located in Orchard Park, NY, the hike is only about a mile and a half long where you can see a lit flame inside of a waterfall due to a natural gas leak sustaining the flame.


Watkins Glen

There are numerous places to hike in the Finger Lakes area of New York. One of these places is Watkin Glen. Watkins Glen is located at the bottom of Seneca Lake where they have countless waterfalls. A very common hiking spot is at Watkins Glen State Park where there are waterfalls that you can walk underneath. Some other places you can hike in the town is Havana Glen where you can swim in the waterfall or drive a little way the visit other areas near the Finger Lakes, like Ithaca where you can find other hiking spots.


If you’re more in the 716 area, hiking at Devil’s Hole State Park or Whirlpool State Park in Niagara Falls, NY, might be the best bet for you. Both trails have you hike down the Niagara River Gorge to the rapids. If you are looking for a place to swim then this hike is not the spot for you as the water moves very quickly and is not safe for swimming.

Zoar Valley

If you are looking to hike a beautiful view, then Zoar Valley is the spot for you. Zoar Valley is 2,297 acres of beautiful and dangerous canyon river valley located in Gowanda, NY. At Zoar Valley, you can hike, canoe, or kayak with the Zoar Valley Paddling Club, and even fish. Zoar Valley has been recognized as one of the top 10 places for Steelhead fishing by fishing magazines.
